Film review: Shame

After a lovely day and dinner meal with my friends at Cafe Rouge, we decided we would go to the cinemas and watch a movie. We had decided on the movie 'Shame'.

I had not heard of this movie before watching it, nor was I excited about seeing it but I was still subjected to it. I'm not really a huge fan of British inspired programming but, meh go with the flow.

The film stars Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan and it is basically about a man with a sex addiction, when his sister (Carey Mulligan) comes to live with him his life goes further out of control. Bearing in mind, we had arrived at the cinema a tad late, so we had missed the beginning film but that didn't stop us from being pushed right into the film with the storyline.

Rated 18, it was no surprise why it got this certificate rating as it was rather sexual in most parts. This is definitely not a film you go to see with your parents nor your friends!! Especially if they are immature individuals as the adult content is quite strong.

I'm not really a fan of films where most of the movie is silence and eerie music. Which was 80% of the this film. Yes, I understand that there is meaning behind it and you have to encapsulate the movie for what it is, but to be honest with you I was not impressed with this movie at all.
There was masturbation, threesomes and at one point he even went to get his fix at a gay bar! It was interesting insight into the world of people with addictions, and I rather stay naive to such things.

I remember sitting in the cinema feeling really awkward as there were many awkward situations and super confused, but the confusion did not just stop there, it lasted right up until the end credits. I guess it makes you realise how strong addictions are and how this happens in every day life!

You could tell that there was a lot of psychological issues with both brother and sister. Him battling his desire and her and her self-loathing. If this is the kind of movie for you, which makes you question humanity and delve into the realities of life then this is for you.

However if your like me and you like to escape by watching corny romantic films or gory horror films then this is not for you.

I don't want to spoil it for your so I am going to just end there.

Secret Corner rating: 4/10

As gorgeous as Michael Fassbender is and looked in that film, he didn't sway me to like this film and was actually quite disappointed I couldn't get a refund.

Happy Sunday!
